A Port Elizabeth policeman has been wounded in a shootout with criminal suspects in Zwide.
Police spokesperson, Captain Andre' Beetge, says the Warrant Officer was admitted to hospital following the incident early Thursday night.
His colleague, also a Warrant Officer, escaped unharmed even though a bullet ripped through his clothing.
Beetge says members from the Kwazakhele Police Station were following up on information on criminal suspects when they spotted four men in Ngwekazi Street.
He says the men opened fire on police who shot back.
One suspect was arrested while the other three escaped and are still at large.
He says they believe at least one other suspect was wounded.
