The Port Elizabeth flying squad member who was shot during an armed robbery at the Le Bon bakery in Rose Street, Central, has died from his injuries.
Police have confirmed that 31 year-old Constable Dwane Alistair Kemp passed away in a Port Elizabeth hospital on Monday afternoon.
Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga says she's learnt with shock of Constable Kemp's death and expressed her condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
General Ntshinga vowed that the remaining suspect would be hunted down and brought to book following the implementation of the police's 72-hour activation plan designed to apprehend the most wanted of criminals.
Constable Kemp was shot in the hand and twice in the abdomen by an armed robber as he and a colleague entered the Le Bon bakery after being alerted to an armed robbery in progress just before 9am on Monday.
His colleague returned fire, killing four armed robbers inside the bakery. A 5th suspect fled and is being sought by police.
Three firearms were recovered at the scene.
