Two men will appear in the New Brighton Magistrates Court on Friday for attempting to kill a police officer who responded to a break in.
Spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says members from Kwadwesi responded to a burglary in progress at a cell tower in Kwadwesi Extention on Wednesday night.
He says as they entered the premises one of the members was attacked by a knife-wielding suspect.
The officer shot him in the leg before they apprehended the suspect and his accomplice who was armed with a screwdriver.
Beetge says they were caught red-handed trying to steal electrical cables.
Both suspects are 25-years-old.
The men will be charged with housebreaking and theft as well as attempted murder. Additional charges of damaging essential infrastructure could also be added.
The suspect who was shot in the leg is currently under police guard at the Dora Nginza hospital.
