The three-day-old Port Elizabeth baby was abandoned and left for dead by her young mother has been named Sindiswa by Kwadwesi police.
Sindiswa means Saved in Xhosa.
The little baby girl was found in Kwadwesi Extension on Tuesday by some children playing in the bushes. She was naked and partially covered by sand.
Police arrested the child's 24-year-old mother at the Kwadwesi taxi rank on Thursday, apparently while waiting to board a taxi to flee the area.
Police spokesperson, Captain Andre' Beetge, said they were able to track down the woman, thanks to a huge response to their public appeal.
Those who would still like to donate something for little Sindiswa can drop off goods at the Kwadwesi police.
