Police in Port Elizabeth arrested two suspects who robbed a cafe in Cape Road with a toy gun on Monday.
Spokesperson Warrant Officer Alwin Labans says the two suspects were having a drink at the cafe at about 1 pm when they approached the 35-year-old complainant with their 'firearm'.
The woman and her assistant were ordered into the back room where they were tied up with sellotape. The suspects then emptied the cash register, grabbed some items from the cafe and stole the one woman's handbag and phone.
Labans says a witness noticed the strange behaviour and immediately contacted the police.
Officers from the Mount Road cluster arrived on the scene and after gathering the relevant information they managed to stop a taxi in CJ Langenhoven Drive.
Labans says both suspects where inside the taxi and arrested on the spot after the stolen items and their 'gun' was discovered.
