A 45-year-old Port Elizabeth businessman is recovering in hospital after being hijacked in Russell road late on Monday night while driving home.
Police say Lorraine resident PJ Venter was stabbed several times and subjected to severe beatings by his hijackers.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, says his attackers took him to Coega where he was robbed of his wallet, clothing and personal belongings.
He managed to escape and run for help. He was assisted by a security guard who called an ambulance.
He was admitted to hospital early Tuesday morning in a serious but stable condition.
Captain Van Rensburg says K9 unit members recovered his hijacked Silver coloured Suzuki in Cuyler street, Central, a short while later.
The vehicle is fitted with a tracking device.
Police are investigating a case of vehicle hijacking, robbery and attempted murder.
