Port Elizabeth police are investigating the death of a nine year old boy who came into contact with an illegal electrical connection in Vastrap informal settlement in Booysens Park.
Police spokesperson, captain Johan Rheeder, says the incident happened on Wednesday when the child was playing outside his home.
He says a resident who went to the child's assistance was also shocked but survived and managed to use a piece of wood to knock the live-wire away from the child, who died later in hospital.
Meanwhile, Rheeder says a group of residents took to the streets on Thursday in protest after the municipality came to disconnect illegal electricity connections.
He says tyres and branches were burned but the situation is calm at the moment.
