The Democratic Alliance has retained its seat in the ward 3 in Buffalo City following Wednesday's by-election.
The DA says the ward became vacant after it fired a non-performing councillor.
DA provincial leader, Athol Trollip says he's proud that Ward Three residents endorsed their standpoint of accountable governance by giving the party an increased share of the vote.
However, figures from the Independent Electoral Commission show that the poll percentage was low - with just 16 percent of registered voters casting their ballots in Buffalo City.
Only one person voted for Anele Jonathan Skoti of the UDM.
In Dutywa, the ANC won 11 of the 12 wards with a big majority while the 12th ward went to an independent candidate.
The ANC also won the by-election in Mount Fletcher.
