Port Elizabeth police are investigating the murder of an 8-year-old boy from Helenvale.
Warrant Officer Alwin Labans said passersby found the body of Jamaine Jonathan dumped on a footpath in extension 6 Malabar at around 7.30 on Monday morning.
He had a gunshot wound to the head and was identified by an older brother.
Labans said that Jonathan appeared to have been shot elsewhere and that his body was then left on the footpath.
He was last seen walking with friends in the area last evening.
Police are looking at all possible scenarios but have yet to establish a motive for the murder of the little boy - described as tiny and slightly built.
Anyone with information is asked to contact their nearest police station.
