A former bookkeeper at Port Elizabeth's Aurora Special Care Centre briefly appeared in the city's Commercial Crimes Court on Friday on 90 counts of theft of more than a million rand.
According to the state's charge sheet, the 44-year-old Johannes Gieselbach, allegedly stole the money from the Care Centre between 2016 and 2019.
It is alleged that he had substituted his own banking details with those of Aurora's creditors and or suppliers after another person had authorised the payments.
The State says this resulted in amounts totalling more than R1.2 million being paid into Gieselbach's bank accounts over this period.
Gieselbach is out on bail and the matter was postponed to the 13th of February 2020 when he is expected to plead guilty.
