The Asset Forfeiture Unit seized assets worth nearly R3m from a Port Elizabeth businessman on Wednesday morning.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Tsepo Ndwalaza says The Right Reverend Samuel Banzana, was a member of a trust which allocated state money for the construction of RDP houses.
He is also the Bishop Ordinary of Umzi Wase Topiya.
Ndwalaza says Banzana allegedly received kick-backs for allocating tenders for the construction of RDP houses.
"The Bishop faces a charge of corruption and money laundering at the moment. We know that he used the money to buy his vehicles and his house. The Bishop received the money as kick-backs from the MOM construction staff who have since became State witnesses" he said.
The assets seized this morning, are a house worth R1.5m in Overdale Avenue in Lovemore Heights, as well as three vehicles - two BMWs and an SUV.
