PE activist's remains to be returned to his family

Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Jeff Radebe will hand over the remains of anti-Apartheid activist Xolile Sam, also known as MK Valdez Mbatha, to his family at the Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth, on Friday.

His remains were exhumed by the NPA's Missing Persons Task Team in June last year in line with the TRC recommendations.

Born in Port Elizabeth in July 1957, Sam died at the hands of former Vlakplaas commander Eugene de Kock and his Security Branch colleagues after they surrounded his house and arrested him.

He was buried as an unidentified pauper in a separate pauper section of Vosloorus cemetery.
