Police in Nelson Mandela Bay have arrested a 35-year-old suspect who was a passenger in a stolen vehicle filled with goods.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says a private security company alerted police about a suspicious Toyota Corrolla driving around in the Walmer Heights area in the early hours of Thursday morning.
She says when the suspects spotted the police they sped off with members in hot pursuit.
The driver eventually abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Colonel Naidu says the vehicle, which was fitted with false number plates, was reported stolen in Jeffreys Bay in January.
Inside the car, police found amplifiers, subwoofers, vehicle batteries, a tent cover, a hydraulic jack, tools, a gate battery, a boat petrol tank as well as other suspected stolen items.
The driver is still on the run while the suspect will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s court on Monday.
