A paralegal at Legal Aid South Africa has been shot and killed in East London, allegedly by an ex-boyfriend who then turned the gun on himself.
Police spokesperson, Captain Hazel Mqala, said the double shooting took place early on Thursday night in Jade Street in Amalinda.
She says the man arrived at the woman's house armed with a gun in one hand and a knife in other and enquired from a tenant as to her whereabouts.
Mqala says when he walked outside he saw the victim getting out of her car and allegedly shot her in the upper body before shooting himself.
A 9mm Norinco pistol was found on the scene.
The names of the two deceased have not yet been released.
A case of murder and an inquest is under investigation.
Meanwhile, Legal Aid South Africa has condemned the murder.
The organisation’s Eastern Cape spokesperson, Abongile Tyopo, says gender-based violence is an issue that needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency.
