Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor has officially opened a Science and Technology Park in the East London Industrial Development Zone.
She was accompanied at Thursday's launch by Eastern Cape premier Pumulo Masualle and other dignitaries.
Pandor said the Science and Technology Park is exactly what is needed in South Africa, adding that she wants to see more such facilities being established to enhance the use of technology and to support innovation.
"This is a wonderful space for generating those new ideas, those new products that South Africa needs. So, this is really a wonderful advance for Science and Technology in South Africa.
Eastern Cape premier, Pumulo Masualle, says young people who have ideas and expertise will be able to get support from the Science and Technology Park.
"It's going to help us to address the problems we have with unemployment (and) growing the economy. We think that it's a very wonderful opportunity, a good development. We are looking to extend it (the Park) to other parts of the province, with this being the base from which we'll launch that effort," said Masualle.
