Teaching in Port Elizabeth Northern areas could grind to a collective halt next week following ongoing unhappiness with the Eastern Cape Education Department.
The Deputy Principal of Sanctor Primary School, Greg Mccullum, told AlgoaFM News that a meeting was held earlier this week where it was decided that educators and parents all schools would picket next Monday and Tuesday morning.
This is raise public awareness of the ongoing teacher shortage crisis.
Mccullum says other grievances relate to the non-payment of teachers and the filling of substantive vacant posts.
"If the Department's doesn't respond positively the schools will be closed on Wednesday collectively. The principals and SGB's will meet again on Wednesday afternoon", he said.
Dozens of schools in Port Elizabeth's Northern areas have been labouring under a dire shortage of teachers, a problem they say the Education Department is not addressing properly.
