The Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court has heard that Christopher Panayiotou can pay up to R50 000 if he is granted bail. Magistrate Abigail Beeton has yet to begin to delivering her Judgement in the bail application.
The PE businessman has been languishing in St Albans prison for more than a month after being charged with orchestrating the abduction and murder of his Riebeeck College School teacher wife Jayde.
Her body was found in Kwanobuhle, Uitenhage, in late April, the day after she had been reported missing. She had been shot three times.
State Prosecutor Marius Stander says he has no objection to the bail amount as it would be irrelevant if Beeton does grant bail. He said the State still contends that he is a flight risk and would interfere with four key State witnesses. He said they will largely testify in relation to the motive for the murder of Jayde.
Defence Council Terry Price said as far as he is aware the witnesses Chanelle Coutts and her friend Clarishka Kapp can only confirm an extra marital affair which he says is not a motive for murder.
The Court adjourned for a short while.
