Two men have been jailed, one for life, for the murder of a 76-year-old Sedgefield man in 2019.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, says 45-year-old John McCombi was sentenced on Thursday to life imprisonment and a further 15 years in the High Court in Knysna for the murder of Peter Henson in September 2019.
His accomplice, 29-year-old Henry Molligan was sentenced to an effective 30 years behind bars on charges of murder and aggravated robbery.
Spies said it was exactly two years to the day, that the two entered Henson’s home in Paul Kruger Street, assaulting him and robbing of household goods before fleeing.
He said Henson’s body was discovered by a friend who also knew the suspects, and who took the deceased’s dog home after he found it wandering in the street.
Spies said police investigations led to a house in Geelblom Street in Smutsville in Sedgefield where the two were arrested and some of the stolen household items recovered.
He said Western Cape police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile, had nothing but praise for the detection and prosecution teams who were instrumental in the long-term imprisonment of the two.
