The DA in Buffalo City metro is up in arms after the municipality scrapped 20 of its public transport service buses.
DA buffalo city metro Councillor Sue Bentley says though the council was engaged intensively about the poor state of the buses, they are still concerned about public transport users who will be inconvenienced.
Bentley says they're in the process of establishing how many users have been left without transport and will raise the matter in the next council meeting.
Meanwhile Buffalo City Metro spokesperson Keith Ngesi says the decision to scrap the buses was taken by council last year and the public was informed through the media.
He says the buses were old and did not meet safety standards.
Ngesi said there was no budget at the moment to buy new buses.
"We have tried to inform communities through radio adverts, flyers and print adverts. People are now requsted to use alternative transport like taxi's, lift clubs and other buses that are working within the metro. We have prioritised the busiest routes especially for learners." said Ngesi
