Oscar Pistorius to know his fate on Tuesday

State Prosecutor Gerrie Nel concluded the State's heads of argument in the Oscar Pistorius trial on Friday, saying the court must take society into consideration when deciding on an appropriate sentence for the paralympian.

Nel has asked that Pistorius be jailed for a minimum ten years for killing Reeva Steenkamp as the negligence displayed by the accused bordered on intent.

"The minimum term that society will be happy with will be a 10 years imprisonment. My lady I could of started at 15 years and hope that the court will suspend 5 years but this is a serious matter, the negligence borders on intent, 10 years is the minimum." said Nel.

Court has now adjourned until 9-30am next Tuesday when Judge Thokozile Masipa will hand down sentence.

In his closing argument earlier this morning, Defence Counsel Barry Roux reminded the court to take into account that Pistorius had shown true remorse for what he had done.

"In considering an appropriate sentence, its the courts discretion, sitting objectively but with the necessary compassion that serious regard should be given to a community based sentence to restorative justice and to strive to assist not on a healing process but at least to put some patches on the pain. We ask the court to consider that." said Roux.
