Orkney man who allegedly built a bomb to kill his family to apply for bail

A man from North West who allegedly built a bomb to kill his family is expected to appear in the Orkney Magistrates court on Thursday where he is expected to apply for bail.

The 58-year-old Tau Lekoa, who is a mineworker, was arrested last month after police received information that he was in possession of a large number of explosives.

Police Spokesperson Thlangelani Rikhotso says Lekoa allegedly built the device himself and then paid a man R10 000 to bomb his family.

She says members of the Hawks were led to an empty shack where explosives, shock tube starters and nitro cords, with an estimated value of one million rands, was found.

Lekoa was arrested and charged with the illegal possession of explosives and conspiracy to commit murder.

Rikhotso says the man who was allegedly offered the R10 000 will turn State witness.
