Details of the official re-opening of the Port Elizabeth Opera House were unveiled on Tuesday.
Opera House General Manager Monde Ngonyama says part of the transformation of the opera house will be a name change to the Nelson Mandela Bay Theatre Complex.
Albrecht Herholt from the Matrix Architecture company said the new building would include an extension of the Arts hub and the barn theatre which will now have lifts and a foyer.
He added that a threatre school, a restaurant and a warehouse for the manufacturing of stage sets will be built at a later stage.
Ngonyama said the board was seeking more funding from the Department of Arts and Culture to ensure the success of the Threatre.
He said the Board was still in talks with the Department to receive more funds.
"It is our wish that DAC realises that there is more to be done going ahead. Our stage is static and old fashioned, but most importantly the institution must be functional. There must be programmes but the truth of the matter, beautiful as the Opera House might look,if the DAC does not come to the party, the board will have to close the building. That is not so distant possibility" he said
The official site hand over will take place on the 10th of next month and the official opening to the public will be ten days later on the 20th of November.
