The Eastern Cape Education Department needs to double its efforts to ensure a smooth start to the 2021 academic year.
That's the word from Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Education which has been visiting schools across the province this week.
The Committee says only 20% of schools have received texts books. The department has also not concluded the delivery of workbooks, with 82% of volume 1 and 45.8% of volume 2 delivered.
The department says delivery will be completed by the 15th of this month.
Committee Chairperson, Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba says that this is not reassuring, considering that schooling was initially to start more than two weeks ago.
