Port Elizabeth police said that one person drowned when a boat returning from a fishing trip capsized near Noordhoek on Saturday morning.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said it was reported that four men were fishing early in the morning when they experienced mechanical problems with the boat.
“At about 09:00, the skipper alerted the fishing club that they were returning to port however before they could enter, the boat, uShaka capsized,” she said.
“Three managed to swim to shore however, Shaun Oosthuizen (37) from Draaifontein drowned,” Naidu said.
