Five people sustained critical injuries and were rushed to hospital after a state-owned minibus with three officials collided head-on with a sedan on the R61 between Mthatha and eNgcobo on Saturday morning.
Eastern Cape Transport Department spokesperson, Nathi Binqose said that a SAPS minibus was travelling towards Mthatha, when it was involved in a collided with an oncoming Audi sedan with two occupants.
He says a case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened.
Mthatha police are investigating the cause of the accident.
