An official from the Department of Correctional Services was killed in an accident involving a stationary vehicle on the N2 in Cotswold on Friday morning.
Spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the 44-year-old driver collided with a low bed vehicle and was killed on impact.
She says his passenger and a prisoner was injured in the accident and taken to hospital.
The low bed vehicle is believed to have been stationary on the road as it was assisting another vehicle near Standford Road.
Janse Van Rensburg says a case of culpable homicide is under investigation and the name of the deceased will only be released once his next of kin have been informed.
