Port Elizabeth police have arrested five men who allegedly shot and killed a man during an armed robbery in Newton Park.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans, says the incident happened just before midnight at the SPAR complex in Newton Park.
He identified the victim as off-duty security guard Zolisa Maholwana.
Labans says Maholwana, his wife (40) and a cousin (30) went to an ATM to draw money, when the occupants of a bakkie opened fire on him.
He was hit several times and died on the scene.
Labans says the gunmen fled with his firearm and the money.
However, he says members of the K9 unit spotted the suspect vehicle and gave chase.
During the arrest police also confiscated two firearms and ammunition and also impounded their vehicle which had been reported stolen in Humewood.
Labans says the men, two adults and three teenagers, will appear in court soon.
