Motorists especially those driving municipal vehicles are warned to stay away from Wells Estate in Motherwell due to a service delivery protest by residents.
Police spokesperson, Constable Mncedi Mbombo says the protest started on Tuesday after the municipality evicted hundreds of residents in the area.
The residents were allegedly illegally occupying a piece of land in the Well Estate area.
Hundreds of resident's homes were demolished by a bulldozer after the municipality obtained an interdict from the court to remove land invaders.
Mbombo says eight vehicles were damaged and two trucks were set alight on Tuesday night.
He says about 200 residents are still protesting, however the situation is under control at this stage.
Mbombo says both roads along the N2 are open but motorists are advised to use other routes.
Police are monitoring the situation.
