A 28-year-old escapee from a Maximum Correctional Centre in Mahikeng in the North West Province has been re-arrested in Mthatha.
The suspect, who was serving a life sentence, escaped some time ago.
Mthatha police spokesperson, Captain Dineo Koena says a combined police team of several units, led by the Ngqeleni Detective Commander, acted on a tip-off and swooped in on the convict at the Circus Triangle bus rank in Mthatha at lunchtime on Wednesday.
The suspect Mandisi Makhanda was also found in possession of a police issue 9mm pistol and two magazines containing 14 rounds of ammunition.
His brother Simphiwe who escaped with him was re-arrested in September.
The Department of Correctional Services has started arrangements to take Makhanda back to Mahikeng.
He will appear in court soon.
