Thousands of nurdles, about the size of lentils, have been washing up on Mossel Bay beaches.
The municipality says the plastic pellets are used in the manufacturing of plastic products for everyday use, such as plastic bottles and packaging materials. Municipal Spokesperson
Nickey le Roux says the nurdles pose a danger to marine life.
She says the latest spill is of concern as the nurdles never dissolve nor disintegrate completely.
Marine animals mistakenly regard it as food, leading to starvation when they ingest them.
The source of the spillage is not yet known.
