Hundreds of Numsa metal sector workers in Nelson Mandela Bay are marching to City Hall in support of their strike for a wage increase.
Several busses transported Numsa members members to Nangoza Njeba Hall in New Brighton for the start of the march at ten o'clock on Tuesday morning.
Police and traffic officials are accompanying the marchers.
The union wants a 12% salary increase, the scrapping of labour brokers, and a one-year bargaining agreement.
Employers have tabled a three-year wage offer of between 7-8% for different levels of workers in the first year, and CPI-linked increases for 2015 and 2016.
Numsa members in East London have meanwhile gathered at the North End stadium to embark on a march to the labour department provincial office.
The march is also part of the nationwide strike by 220 000 Numsa affiliated workers in the metals and engineering sector.
The strike is projected to affect production at the East London based Mercedes Benz SA plant.
Numsa first deputy president Christine Olivier says they ready to hand over the memorandum to the labour department as per the union's resolution on Sunday.
