The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has urged all residents along the coastal shorelines to be vigilant after the South African Weather Service warned of unpredicted wave patterns on Tuesday.
This could happen in an unusual wave period during a lull in waves and the hidden danger of larger waves might not be revealed.
Anglers, beachgoers and coastal hikers must take extra caution as they could be caught off guard by the unusual wave pattern, that could sweep them off their feet.
The NSRI said the large waves could potentially damage vulnerable coastal infrastructure.
