A Port Elizabeth businessman made his first appearance in the Magistrates' Court on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
The 33-year-old Naadir Abader is facing a charge of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm as well as a charge of malicious damage to property.
This follows the alleged assault of 25-year-old beautician and local radio presenter Josca Human who laid a charge with the Walmer police after photographs of her injuries went viral on social media.
Abader assaulted a male employee in 2013 for which he was found guilty and fined R600.
A small group of protesters consisting of men and women gathered outside the court to show their support, not only for Human but also to express their anger against gender-based violence.
Abader who is the owner of a security firm called Chronicle Protection is out on bail of R500.
He will be back in court on the 5th of August.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says this is not the first woman to lay a charge of assault against Abader.
In September of 2017, his then-girlfriend laid a charge of assault but it was later withdrawn.
