The NSRI is urging caution around the coastline this weekend and into the latter half of next week as a Blue Moon Spring tide peaks on Saturday.
October features two full moons and the second full moon in one calendar month is a relatively rare phenomenon called a Blue Moon.
This full moon Spring tide brings the usual higher than normal Spring high tide and lower than normal Spring low tide.
The NSRI says anglers fishing from rocks, coastal hikers and bathers need to be cautious.
Its highly recommended that beach goers only swim where and when lifeguards are on duty and to swim between the flags that lifeguards post on the beach.
