Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga, has ordered the 72 hour activation of all resources to catch those responsible for the rape and murder of a six year-old child at Mdantsane, East London.
Eastern Cape Police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, says reports suggest that the child had gone to a local shop to buy sweets when she was attacked by a group of unknown suspects.
Her body was later found on the side of the road in one of the units in Mdantsane.
Meanwhile, Brigadier Kinana said police were rejecting with contempt social media reports accusing the Station Commander of Vulindlela of being uncaring and irresponsible in the matter.
The accusations have also been dismissed by the mother of the murdered child.
Lieutenant General Ntshinga warned that those who are using social media platforms for their own ambitions are potentially compromising the case by misleading investigators and demoralising the family of the victim in the process.
