NSRI ask for extreme caution as man goes missing at sea

Members of the National Sea rescue Institute joined by die Buffallo City Metro and Rescue services launched a helicopter search for a man in East London who got swept out to sea by rip currents.

Spokesperson Craig Lambinon says the incident happened on Christmas day.

He says despite an extensive search no sign of the man has been found.

Police divers have now joined the search

Meanwhile the NSRI urged the public to exercise extreme caution due to very rough sea conditions caused by the New Moon Spring tide

"Particularly around 6pm this evening with the high tide and low tide a lot of people are expected on the beaches today. We are asking for extreme caution. A warning has also been posted for Jeffrey's Bay beach, where authorities are asking people not to go into the water, because of strong surges"

This warning is also for Wilderness and Cape St Francis beaches.

Lambinon asked bathers to only swim where there are lifeguards on duty and urged everybody launching any type of boat to wear their life jackets at all times.
