Nqakula to lead ANC turn-around team in NMBM

Former Defence Minister Charles Nqakula will lead a 31-member team to turn-around the fortunes of the ANC in Nelson Mandela Bay.

This followed the disbanding of the ANC's regional executive committee in the Metro in December by ANC president Jacob Zuma.

He lead a top-level party delegation to the Metro this weekend where talks were held with local and provincial party officials on the make-up of the task team.

The Herald reports on Monday that other members of the team include former deputy mayor, Biks Ndoni and former MEC's Thobile Mhlahlo and Siva Pillay, amongst others.

Meanwhile, the SA Communist Party in the Eastern Cape has called for action to be taken on forensic reports about corrupt activities in the province.

The organisation held its provincial working committee meeting in Bhisho yesterday.

In a statement yesterday, the SACP called for action on the Kabuso report into irregularities in Nelson Mandela Bay and the Ernst & Young report into the Buffalo City and the Nelson
Mandela memorial scandal.

The SACP in the Eastern Cape also called on the Public Protector Thuli Madonsela to release her findings into the investigation relating to the Nelson Mandela funeral fund scandal as soon as possible.

An investigation by the Hawks saw several high ranking municipal officials, including Buffalo City municipality mayor Zukiswa Ncitha arrested in the R90m irregular spending saga.
