Notorious cliff near Herold's Bay claims 9th victim


George police have confirmed that yet another person was killed when his vehicle plunged down the notorious cliff at Voëlklip near Herold's Bay.

Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says police and emergency services found pieces of a white vehicle and spotted a body lying on the rocks at the bottom of the cliff.

The body has since been identified as male and deceased.

Captain Pojie says the wreckage of the car is also visible in the water.

Emergency workers will now continue their operation by retrieving the body.

The name of the deceased is not yet known.

It is also unclear when the incident took place.

According to police eyewitnesses saw a man in a white Ford Ecosport driving down the cliff at approximately 08:30 am. It is believed that the vehicle was rented. The eyewitnesses immediately notified authorities

At least nine people have died in the past four years at this popular picnic and fishing spot.
