Grahamstown is without water, due to a problem with a supply pipe.
The Makana municipality says on its website the supply from the Howieson's Poort dam has been interrupted.
It says a team is working on the problem, but no timeline was given on when the water supply will be restored.
A spokesperson for Rhodes University, Zamuxolo Matiwane, says they have made alternate arrangements.
These include water tankers being deployed where requires, including student residences.
