The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says there is no truth to rumours doing the rounds on social networks and BBM messages that its drinking water is unsafe.
Municipal spokesperson Roland Williams says the message, attributed to someone working at the water treatment plant, is a hoax.
Williams says Nelson Mandela Bay's drinking water remains completely safe and is fully compliant with the SANS 241 standard, which is the national authoritative standard against which all water systems are measured.
