Embattled power utility Eskom has announced a suspension of its seemingly relentless load shedding schedule.
The last day of the year today will see the implementation of stage 2 loadshedding - which started at 5 am and which will end at 4pm.
Eskom says on its official twitter handle that load shedding will then be suspended until 5 am on Monday 2 January, whereafter stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented until further notice.
It means that New Year's celebrations tonight and into New Year's Day tomorrow will be free of any power interruptions.
According to TechCentral, South Africa passed 200 days of load shedding for the year on Tuesday, 27 December.
With some form of load shedding every day since then, it puts the total number of days of load shedding for the year at 204 - the most in a year EVER since load shedding was first introduced in October 2007.
