Residents from the Dr Beyers Naude local municipality (DBNLM) as well as the Walter Sisulu Municipality are having a slight reprieve from the combined loadshedding and load reduction that was implemented before Christmas.
As a result towns like Graaff Reinet, Aberdeen, Willowmore, Maletswai, Burgersdorp and Steynsburg were powerless for between 8-10 hours a day.
Both municipalities have been engaging with Eskom, but have not received any feedback and were simply informed that load reduction had been suspended.
In the Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality, there is now also a water crisis with some residents who had no water for an entire week.
According to the constituency leader Samantha Graham-Maré, the lack of water has resulted in at least two of the sewage pump station overflowing with raw sewage flowing freely into the Sunday's River.
The DBNLM owes Eskom R361 million.
