Plettenberg Bay police have opened an inquest following the death of a 19 year-old man at Bloukrans River Bridge on the N2 highway outside Storms River.
Emergency services personnel were dispatched to the scene after a man jumped from the bridge shortly after 1pm on Thursday 29 December.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, says investigations indicate that the victim left George earlier the same day in a Hyundai motor vehicle.
His body was later located at the bottom of the cliff after his vehicle was found abandoned at Bloukrans Bridge.
Sergeant Spies says a search and rescue operation was activated and the young man was declared dead on scene by medical personnel.
The search and rescue team proceeded with the recovery operation on Friday, whereafter the body was retrieved.
Sergeant Spies says the deceased was from Worcester in the Western Cape and has been identified by his next of kin.
