The presidency could not confirm on Friday whether President Jacob Zuma had received a letter demanding the release of 270 arrested Marikana miners.
City Press reports that the letter was sent to Zuma by the miners' lawyers on Friday.
Zuma was asked to release the miners by 1pm on Sunday, or face an urgent high court application compelling him to release them.
The Presidency added that Justice Minister Jeff Radebe also had not seen or received the letter.
