Police in Port Elizabeth have finalised their investigation into an animal cruelty case that was opened at the Walmer police station on Wednesday.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said no person has been charged yet in connection with a photograph that went viral on social media, showing a man dangling a dog out his car window.
A person who saw the picture opened a case of animal cruelty as well as the person who initially posted it onto Facebook.
Naidu says the latter complainent told police that he was driving in Mohammed Desai Road in Fairview when he saw a dog dangling out of the driver's side of the car. He managed to drive alongside the man and enquired what was happening. The driver alleged that the dog jumped through the open window.
She said the man asked him to put the dog in the back of the car and he obliged.
He advised the driver to put the dog in the back of the car of which the owner obliged.
The owner of the dog then came forward and told police that the animal escaped from the house and he went looking for it when his children raised the alarm.
He said he found the dog not far from his house and was about 100metres from his home when the dog jumped out the window.
According to him he managed to grab it, just in time, by the legs.
Naidu said the docket will now be sent to the Senior Public Prosecutor to decide whether or not to charge the man.
