Political analyst, Dr Joleen Steyn Kotze, of Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, says there should only be a cabinet reshuffle after the 2014 election.
She was commenting following Jacob Zuma's resounding defeat of the country's current deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe, who opted not to stand for ANC deputy president, at the party's elective conference in Mangaung.
Steyn Kotze said "we have learned from the 2007 ANC conference that at times the ANC will not necessarily wait for an election but just embark on a cabinet reshuffle."
She said "this is not good news for us considering the amount of cabinet reshufflings we've already seen throughout Zuma's term. It creates a form of political volatility and it also affects the implementation of policy in that there is a lack of continuity with the political agenda."
