Nelson Mandela University has called on students and staff to report incidents of intimidation and threats of violence to the University's legal services.
The message followed a protest by students last week and alleged incidents of threats and intimidation via social media.
NMU said on their website that while it encourages the responsible use of social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, it cautions that abuse of these platforms could fall foul of the University's ICT policy and code of conduct.
SASCO asked students on Friday to post the names of lecturers who wanted to continue with academic activities on their Facebook page where they were threatened with possible violence.
The University says that acts of intimidation and threats are also in contravention of an interdict the institution obtained in an effort to enforce observances and protection of the rights of staff and students and also to normalise University operations.
NMU says it also reserves the right to follow due legal and disciplinary processes.
