Earlier, a notice appeared on the Facebook page of student organisation Sasco, warning that vehicles should be removed from the campus.
In another posting, the student body listed a number of issues that are in dispute.
These relate to accommodation, a new residential building, student allowances and what Sasco said was a chaotic shuttle service.
NMU spokesperson, Zandile Mbabela says they are aware of the situation and charges have been laid at the Humewood police station.
Classes have also been suspended.
