NMMU will accommodate blind students

The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University has accepted Blind Students after the SA National Council for the Blind intervened.

The SA National Council for the Blind met with the University in Port Elizabeth earlier this week to address the concern that the University had refused admission to three blind students who wished to study there next year.

The Council says in a statement that after discussions, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of NMMU, Dr Sibongile Muthwa, announced that one student who already qualified for university entry will be invited to continue with his application.

The other two students will be invited to undergo the university assessment qualification.

Muthwa also apologised for the misunderstanding and inconvenience caused by the university.
