A 20-year old NMMU student has drowned at Kings Beach in Port Elizabeth.
Regional Chairperson of Lifesaving Eastern Cape, David Bamber says the drowning took place at around 6 o'clock on Saturday evening.
He says it the 7th drowning at Nelson Mandela Bay beaches in the past six weeks.
Bamber says according to reports, he was one of a group of young people who appeared to have been consuming alcohol.
Earlier in the day, another member of the same group had to be rescued.
Bamber says the drowning took place only some 25 minutes after nearly 200 lifeguards, who had been participating in the Lifesaving Eastern Cape Regional Championships had left the beach to attend the prize giving.
